UOC of the USA Bestows Church Honors on Ukrainian Navy Sailors

On Friday, November 26, 2021 – the hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA received a delegation of Ukrainian Navy Officers as they conclude their training in the United States of America and prepare for the return to Ukraine.

Very Rev. Fr. Vasyl Kryshtompol of Holy Archangel Michael Ukrainian Orthodox parish in Baltimore, MD traveled with the Navy servicemen to the Spiritual Center of the UOC of the USA and attended the Divine Liturgy of Thanksgiving, marking the beginning of the 50th anniversary of priestly service of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony.

Introducing the officers, Archbishop Daniel stated that “…this festive celebration was made even greater by the presence and participation of Ukrainians, who are not only Ukrainian in words, but, in their actions.  Captain of the Second Rank Ihor Mykolayovych Trukhan, Captain of the Second Rank Serhiy Mykhailovych Karlash and Captain-Lieutenant Dmytro Lytvyn, all are Ukrainian servicemen based and trained in the United States, are active participants in the parish life of our Church.  Ukrainians who in 2014, during the military aggression and annexation of Crimea, remained faithful to their country, their oaths, and faithful to themselves.  These men show by their very example, that there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for their friends.

Vladyka Daniel reflected upon the sacrifices of the servicemen in attendance, offering words of gratitude for their active participation in the life of the local Baltimore Ukrainian Orthodox parish. “These gentlemen, stated Vladyka, were not only participating in the liturgical life of the Church, but they lived Liturgy with the faithful of the parish, assisting with the repairs of the church and even making Ukrainian varynyky with the Sisterhood of the parish.”

With the blessing of Metropolitan Antony, Archbishop Daniel bestowed medals commemorating the Centennial of the founding of the UOC of USA upon the sailors, expressing his gratitude for dedicating their lives to their Church and Ukrainian nation.

Receiving the Church awards, the servicemen honorably exclaimed: “We Serve the People of Ukraine!”

Axios, worthy Ukrainians!
