Celebration of the Nativity of Christ at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Parma, OH!

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” (St. Luke 2:14)

Over 2000 years ago was proclaimed this Angelic song and fullfield the prophecies of the Old Testament about the Birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.The prophet Isaiah prophesied: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel” (Is.7:14; Mt 1:23) God sent His Beloved Son to the Earth to save us. On this Christmas Season, let us truly celebrate the Feast of Christ’s Birth – knowing that Christ came into this world “to give us the power to become children of God” (John 1:12).  He came “to make us partners of His Divine Nature”  (I Peter 5:1).  In our Savior’s own words, he came “to seek and save those who are lost” (Luke 19:10).  As He comes to us again this Christmas, may we sing His praises like the angelic choir that heralded His Birth.  May we worship Him with the humility of the shepherds. May we seek Him with the unwavering persistence and perseverance of the Wise Men.

Saint John Chrysostom said about the Nativity of Christ: “Behold a new and wondrous mystery. My ears resound to the Shepherd’s song, piping no soft melody, but chanting full forth a heavenly hymn. The Angels sing. The Archangels blend their voice in harmony. The Cherubim hymn their joyful praise. The Seraphim exalt His glory. All join to praise this holy feast, beholding the Godhead here on earth, and man in heaven. Bethlehem this day resembles heaven; hearing from the stars the singing of angelic voices; and in place of the sun, enfolds within itself on every side, the Sun of justice.”

During this Nativity Season, our St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral parish family in Parma, OH experienced a wondrous mystery of the Birth of Jesus Christ our God. People were rejoicing celebrating the Lord’s Nativity beginning with the Holy Super prepared for over 27 years by our UOL Chapter. 140 people, who were not able to prepare their own meal at home, participated. After that they along with other parishioners attended the Christmas Eve Vigil and the next day the Christmas Liturgy. We know that this Divine Liturgy was listened to by the faithfull on radio and also on the internet. We have heard from listeners in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Toronto, Canada, Ukraine, Spain and France. Everyone commented on how beautiful the Liturgy was and that they were moved to tears, especially when they heard the magnificent singing of our combined Ukrainian and English choirs, totally 40 voices. Hundreds of faithful filled our Cathedral at the Christmas Liturgy and Holy Communion was distributed by the clergy using four chalices. We are very glad and thank God for the opportunity allowing people all over the world to pray to the New Born King our Lord Jesus Christ together with us at Saint Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Parma, Ohio. This is the 24-th year that our parish sponsors this radio program for our shut-ins.

May this Nativity Season be for all of us a time of love and grace of our Lord in our life. We have to realize that Nativity of Christ has to be in our hearts and we have to live with it, and every time change for better. May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Who came to this world to save us, bless all of us.

Christ is Born! Glorify Him!

Святкування Різдва Христового у Соборі святого Володимира, Парма, Огайо

«Слава вишніх Богу і на землі мир, між людьми Боже змилування.»  (Лк. 2:14)

Більше як 2000 років тому назад пролунала ця ангельська пісня та здійснилися пророкування Старого Завіту про Народження Нашого Спасителя. Пророк Ісая говорить: «Ось Діва в утробі зачне і породить Сина і дадуть йому ім’я Еммануїл.» (Іс 7:14; Мф. 1:23) Бог послав на землю Свого Єдинородного Сина, щоб спасти нас. У цей Різдвяний період, даваймо по справжньому святкувати Свято Народження Христа, знаючи, що Христос прийшов у цей світ «дати нам силу, щоб стати дітьми Божими» (Ів. 1:12) Він прийшов: «зробити нас партнерами Його Божественної Природи» (1 Петр. 5:1). У власних словах Спасителя, Він прийшов: «щоб знайти та спасти, що загинуло» (Лк. 19.10). Він знову приходить до нас цього Різдва, даваймо прославмо Його співами, як ангельські хори, що побачили Його Народження. Давайте вшануємо Його своєю покірністю, як пастухи. Давайте, ми знайдемо Його з незмінним зберіганням і наполеглівістю, як Три Мудреці і тоді новий день засяє для кожного з нас.

Святитель Іоан Золотоустий говорить про Народження Христа так: «Бачу таїнство незвичайне і чудне: пастирі сповіщають слух мій, проголошуючи не пустельну пісню, а співаючи небесний гимн. Ангели співають, архангели оспівують, херувими взивають, серафими славословлять; все радується, бачачи Бога на землі і людину на небесах. Нині Вифлеєм уподібнився до неба, замість зірок прийнявши ангелів, які співають, а замість сонця несказанно поміщає в собі Сонце правди.»

У це Різдво Христове, наша Парафія Святого Володимира у Пармі, відчула незвичайне таїнство Народження Христа. Віруючі раділи тією радістю, святкуючи Господнє Народження, починаючи з Святої Вечері, що приготував, більше як 27 років, наш Відділ Української Православної Ліги. 140 людей, які не мали можливості приготовити Святу Вечеру, були присутні у нас.  Після того всі разом з іншими парафіянами були присутні на Повечір’ї Різдва Христового та на Божественній Літургії у самий День Різдва Христового. Ми почули багато приємних відгуків від слухачів з Ohio, Pennsylvania, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Toronto Canada, України, Іспанії  і Франції. Всі вони говорили яка чудова була Літургія, що від радості вони аж плакали. Особливо коли вони чули милозвучний спів нашого об’єднаного українського та англійського хорів, більше як 40 голосів. Сотні віруючих заповнили наш храм на Різдвяній Літургії та отримали з рук соборного духовенства Святе Таїнство Причастя. Ми дуже є раді і дякуємо Богу за ці можливості, що люди по цілому світі молилися до Новонaродженного Спасителя Ісуса Христа разом з нами, з усіма віруючими Українського Православного Собору святого Володимира, що в Пармі, Огайо. Цю радіо програму наша парафія передає вже більше 24 роки для наших немічних парафіян.

Нехай Цей Різдвяний період, буде для нас часом Божої любові та милості у нашому житті. Ми маємо зрозуміти, що Народження Христа має бути у наших серцях, і ми маємо ним жити, змінюючи кожного разу себе на краще. Нехай наш Господь Ісус Христос, Який прийшов у цей світ, щоб спасти нас, благословить нас усіх. 

Христос Рождається! Славімо Його!
