Ukraine is once again living through days of pain, tears, and unspeakable suffering. Daily missile strikes, destroyed homes, shattered lives, frightened children’s eyes, and sleepless nights of mothers have become the terrible reality for millions of people. In many cities and villages, people no longer awaken to the singing of birds, but to the sound of sirens and explosions. Thousands of families have lost their homes, their normal lives, their sense of safety and peace. Yet even in this darkness, the Lord continues to act through human hearts - through those who refuse to walk past the pain of another person.

It is through this living and active love that the Donetsk Eparchy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine continues its humanitarian mission, despite the dangers and constant challenges of war. The Church remains steadfast in serving those who find themselves in the most difficult circumstances of life. Special attention is given to children with special needs, people with disabilities, displaced persons, single mothers, and families who struggle each day not only for survival, but also to preserve their human dignity and hope.

Once again, the volunteer center of the Donetsk Eparchy became a place where people receive not only food and essential supplies, but also the warmth of compassionate hearts. Mothers arrive with tears in their eyes, sharing how they spent the night hiding their children in hallways during bombardments. Elderly people come who have lost everything they owned. Displaced families come after fleeing death and destruction in their hometowns, only to continue living under the threat of rockets and drones in unfamiliar cities.

Among them are especially vulnerable children - children who, because of severe illnesses, cannot walk, eat, or even speak on their own. Children for whom every single day is a struggle. Yet standing beside them are mothers - exhausted, overwhelmed, yet unbroken in their love.

With deep emotion, Metropolitan Serhii of the Donetsk Eparchy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine reflected: “Today, the greatest burden is carried by the mothers of special-needs children. Their lives are a continuous sacrifice of love. They rarely have rest, rarely have time for themselves, yet every day they pour tenderness, warmth, and care into the lives of their children. In their eyes there is exhaustion and pain, but also extraordinary strength of spirit. I bow low before every such mother. These children are a special blessing from God to the world because they teach us sincerity, purity of heart, and unconditional love.”

Every package of food, every delivery of medicine or hygiene supplies is far more than humanitarian assistance. It is a sign that a suffering person has not been abandoned alone with their pain. It is a testimony that the Church of Christ stands beside them.

The humanitarian outreach is carried out with the blessing of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, who from the very first days of the full-scale invasion blessed the clergy and faithful of the UOC of the USA to actively support the suffering people of Ukraine through prayer, humanitarian aid, and concrete acts of mercy.

Archbishop Daniel of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, who coordinates many of the humanitarian assistance programs for Ukraine, emphasized: “Today, we cannot allow ourselves to become indifferent. Every day this war takes human lives, destroys families, leaves children orphaned, and wounds human souls. Yet it is precisely now that the Lord calls us to stand beside those who suffer the most. If a person is crying - we must wipe away their tears. If a person is hungry - we must feed them. If someone has lost hope - we must remind them that Christ is near.

It is especially painful to witness the suffering of children with disabilities and their mothers, who carry an extraordinarily heavy cross. These families are often forgotten by the world. But for the Church, they are the living image of Christ Himself. Our responsibility is not only to speak about love, but to embody it through concrete acts of mercy.”

Archbishop Daniel also noted that the clergy, faithful, and benefactors of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA continue to sacrificially support humanitarian projects throughout Ukraine, fully aware that the needs of the people continue to grow with each passing day.

“We do not have the right to grow tired of another person’s pain. As long as somewhere a child cries from fear or hunger, the Church must remain present. As long as a mother prays beside the bed of her sick child, we must support her. As long as an elderly person wonders how they will survive tomorrow, we must extend a helping hand. This is what true Christianity looks like.”

Metropolitan Serhii also expressed profound gratitude to His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, Archbishop Daniel, the clergy, and faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA for their constant support of joint humanitarian efforts:

“We are sincerely grateful to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA for its open heart, sacrifice, and love for the Ukrainian people. In these terrible times, your support has become for many a true sign of God’s presence. Sadly, the number of people in need continues to grow every day. But together we are able to give people not only essential supplies, but also the most important gift of all - hope.”

Special words of gratitude were also directed to the volunteers who tirelessly labor in humanitarian centers, deliver aid to those unable to travel, visit families caring for disabled children, support displaced people, and assist those left without means to survive.

“You are the light in the darkness of war. Your hands become the hands of God’s mercy. Your ministry is the Gospel in action,” Metropolitan Serhii said.

Today, Ukraine suffers deeply. It suffers with every destroyed home. It suffers with every mother’s tears. It suffers with every child who no longer knows what peaceful childhood feels like. Yet precisely in these terrifying days, the Lord reveals that love is stronger than hatred, and mercy is capable of overcoming even the deepest darkness.

For wherever there is love, sacrifice, and prayer - there Christ Himself is present.

Let us remain united. Let us pray for one another. And let us never grow weary of doing good, even in the midst of war. For this is how light is born in the midst of darkness.

Милосердя серед руїн війни: Церква Христова поруч із тими, хто страждає

Україна знову переживає дні болю, сліз і невимовних страждань. Щоденні ракетні удари, зруйновані домівки, скалічені людські долі, налякані дитячі очі та безсонні ночі матерів стали страшною реальністю для мільйонів людей. У багатьох містах і селах люди прокидаються не від співу птахів, а від звуків сирен та вибухів. Тисячі родин втратили свої домівки, звичне життя, відчуття безпеки та спокою. Але навіть серед цієї темряви Господь продовжує діяти через людські серця, через тих, хто не проходить повз чужий біль.

Саме такою живою і діяльною любов’ю сьогодні служить Донецька єпархія Православної Церкви України, яка, попри небезпеку та постійні виклики війни, не припиняє своєї гуманітарної місії для людей, які опинилися у найтяжчих життєвих обставинах. Особлива увага приділяється дітям з особливими потребами, людям з інвалідністю, переселенцям, самотнім матерям та родинам, які щоденно борються не лише за виживання, але й за збереження людської гідності та надії.

Укотре волонтерський центр Донецької єпархії став місцем, де люди знаходять не лише продукти чи необхідні речі, але й тепло людського серця. Сюди приходять матері, які зі сльозами на очах розповідають, як уночі ховали дітей у коридорах під час обстрілів. Приходять літні люди, які втратили все, що мали. Приходять переселенці, які змушені були залишити свої домівки, рятуючись від смерті, але навіть у нових містах продовжують жити під загрозою ракет і шахедів.

І серед цих людей - особливі діти. Діти, які через тяжкі хвороби не можуть самостійно ходити, їсти чи говорити. Діти, для яких кожен день є випробуванням. Але поруч із ними стоять матері - виснажені, змучені, але незламні у своїй любові.

Схиляючи голову перед такими родинами, митрополит Сергій Донецький Православної Церкви України зі сльозами в голосі говорить: «Найважче сьогодні - матерям особливих дітей. Їхнє життя - це безперервна жертва любові. Вони майже не мають відпочинку, не мають часу для себе, але щодня дарують своїм дітям ніжність, тепло і турботу. У їхніх очах - втома і біль, але водночас і неймовірна сила духу. Я низько вклоняюся кожній такій матері. Ці діти є особливим благословенням Божим для світу, бо вони вчать нас справжності, чистоти серця та любові без умов».

Кожен продуктовий набір, кожна передана пачка ліків чи засобів гігієни - це більше, ніж гуманітарна допомога. Це знак того, що людина не залишена сам на сам зі своїм болем. Це свідчення того, що Церква Христова є поруч.

Надання гуманітарної допомоги здійснюється з благословення Предстоятеля Української Православної Церкви США - Високопреосвященнішого Митрополита Антонія, який від перших днів повномасштабної війни благословив духовенство та вірних УПЦ США активно підтримувати багатостраждальний народ України молитвою, гуманітарною допомогою та конкретними справами милосердя.

Архієпископ Даниїл Української Православної Церкви США, який координує гуманітарні програми допомоги Україні, наголошує: «Сьогодні не можна бути байдужими. Війна щодня забирає людські життя, руйнує родини, залишає дітей сиротами та калічить людські душі. Але саме тепер Господь кличе нас бути поруч із тими, кому найважче. Якщо людина плаче - ми повинні витерти її сльози. Якщо людина голодна - ми повинні її нагодувати. Якщо людина втратила надію - ми повинні нагадати їй, що Христос поруч.

Особливо боляче дивитися на дітей з обмеженими можливостями та їхніх матерів, які несуть надзвичайно важкий хрест. Ці родини часто залишаються непоміченими світом. Але для Церкви вони є живою присутністю Самого Христа. Наш обов’язок - не лише говорити про любов, але й втілювати її у конкретних справах милосердя».

Владика Даниїл також підкреслив, що духовенство, вірні та доброчинці УПЦ США продовжують жертовно підтримувати гуманітарні проєкти в Україні, розуміючи, що потреби людей сьогодні є величезними.

«Ми не маємо права втомитися від чужого болю. Бо поки десь плаче дитина від страху чи голоду - Церква повинна бути поруч. Поки мати молиться біля ліжка своєї хворої дитини - ми повинні підтримати її. Поки літня людина не знає, як пережити завтрашній день - ми повинні простягнути їй руку допомоги. Саме так проявляється справжнє християнство», - наголосив архієпископ Даниїл.

Митрополит Сергій також висловив глибоку вдячність Високопреосвященнішому Митрополиту Антонію, архієпископу Даниїлу, духовенству та вірним УПЦ США за постійну підтримку спільних гуманітарних проєктів: «Ми щиро вдячні Українській Православній Церкві США за відкрите серце, за жертовність і любов до українського народу. У ці страшні часи ваша підтримка є для багатьох людей справжнім знаком Божої присутності. Кількість тих, хто потребує допомоги, на жаль, зростає щодня. Але разом ми можемо подарувати людям не лише необхідні речі, але й найголовніше - надію».

Особливі слова вдячності були звернені до волонтерів, які часто без відпочинку працюють у гуманітарних центрах, доставляють допомогу людям, що не можуть самостійно прийти, відвідують родини дітей з інвалідністю, підтримують переселенців і тих, хто залишився без засобів до існування.

«Ви - світло серед темряви війни. Ваші руки стають руками Божого милосердя. Ваше служіння - це Євангеліє у дії», - сказав митрополит Сергій.

Сьогодні Україна болить. Болить кожною зруйнованою хатою. Болить кожною материнською сльозою. Болить кожною дитиною, яка більше не знає, що таке мирне дитинство. Але саме у ці страшні дні Господь показує, що любов сильніша за ненависть, а милосердя здатне перемогти навіть найглибшу темряву.

Бо там, де є любов, жертовність і молитва - там присутній Сам Христос.

Тримаймося разом. Молімося один за одного. І не втомлюймося творити добро навіть серед болю війни. Бо саметак народжується світло серед темряви.
