South Bound Brook, NJ - The Consistory of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA issues this formal press release to inform the clergy and faithful of the Church, as well as friends and supporters, of significant flooding that has once again impacted the Protection of the Mother of God Ukrainian Orthodox Parish in the San Diego metropolitan area, California.

This most recent flooding has caused substantial damage to the parish facilities and has deeply affected the parish community. Tragically, this marks the third major flooding event within the past five years, placing a heavy emotional, physical, and financial burden upon the faithful of this mission parish.

On January 1, 2026,  the parish sustained yet another severe flood. A river of water flowing from a neighboring school’s playground inundated the parish apartment, parish hall, and church building. As a result, the parish pastor, Very Reverend Father Myron Mykhayluk, together with Pani Halyna, were once again forced to leave their residence and temporarily move in with their son, Vasyl.

Despite the challenges and the solemnity of the New Year’s Day, approximately 20 parishioners gathered immediately to respond to the emergency. Throughout the day, they worked tirelessly to remove water, place sandbags around vulnerable areas, and prepare for additional rainfall forecasted for the coming week. In an effort to preserve recently installed flooring in the parish apartment and hall, dehumidifiers and industrial fans were rented and placed in all three parish buildings. Regrettably, the church carpeting has become fully waterlogged and will need to be removed. Until the building is completely dried and restored, liturgical services cannot be held in the church.

Upon learning of the situation, His Eminence Archbishop Daniel, President of the Consistory of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and Eparchial Hierarch of the Western Eparchy, immediately reached out to Fr. Myron and members of the parish community. At the time of their conversation, the pastor and parishioners were actively engaged in emergency cleanup efforts, working together to safeguard liturgical items and secure the parish property.

Archbishop Daniel conveyed his archpastoral care, encouragement, and spiritual support, assuring the parish that they are not alone in this trial. He also transmitted the archpastoral blessing, love, and prayers of His Eminence Metropolitan Antony, Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, who joins the faithful of San Diego in prayer during this difficult time.

Speaking on behalf of the Church, Archbishop Daniel stated: “When a parish suffers, the entire Body of Christ feels that pain. The repeated flooding endured by the Protection of the Mother of God Parish is a heavy cross, yet the faith, unity, and perseverance of this community are a living testimony to hope. The Church stands with them in prayer, compassion, and tangible support.”

The Consistory respectfully asks all clergy, parishes, and faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA to remember the Protection of the Mother of God Parish in their prayers, asking the Lord to grant strength, endurance, safety, and a swift restoration of the parish’s sacred space.

In addition to prayerful support, the Consistory appeals to parishes and individuals to consider offering financial assistance to help the parish recover from this repeated natural disaster. Contributions will be used for urgent repairs, restoration of parish facilities, and to support the parish community as it works toward stability and resilience.

Саут-Бавнд-Брук, Нью-Джерзі - Консисторія Української Православної Церкви США доводить до відомадуховенство та вірних нашої Святої Церкви, а також друзів і доброчинців, про значну повінь, яка знову вразила парафію Покрова Пресвятої Богородиці Української Православної Церкви в околицях Сан-Дієго, штат Каліфорнія.

Остання повінь завдала суттєвих пошкоджень парафіяльним приміщенням і глибоко торкнулася життя парафіяльної громади. На жаль, це вже третій серйозний випадок затоплення за останні п’ять років, що накладає важкий емоційний, фізичний та фінансовий тягар на вірних цієї місійної парафії.

1 січня, 2026 року, парафія знову зазнала серйозної повені. Потік води зі шкільного ігрового майданчика затопив парафіяльну квартиру, зал і сам храм. У зв’язку з цим настоятель парафії, отець Мирон Михайлюк, разом із п. Галиною були змушені знову тимчасово покинути своє помешкання та переїхати до сина Василя.

Попри труднощі та святковий день Нового року, близько 20 парафіян негайно зібралися, щоб надати допомогу. Упродовж дня вони наполегливо працювали, відкачуючи воду, встановлюючи мішки з піском та готуючись до подальших опадів, які прогнозуються на найближчий тиждень. З метою збереження нових підлог у парафіяльній квартирі та залі були орендовані осушувачі повітря та промислові вентилятори для всіх трьох будівель. На жаль, килимове покриття в храмі повністю промокло й потребує демонтажу. Богослужіння в храмі наразі неможливі, доки приміщення не буде повністю висушене та відновлене.

Дізнавшись про ситуацію, Його Високопреосвященство Архієпископ Даниїл, голова Консисторії Української Православної Церкви США та Єпархіальний єпископ Західньої Єпархії, негайно зв’язався з отцем Мироном та членами парафіяльної громади. Під час розмови настоятель і парафіяни саме брали участь у невідкладних роботах з ліквідації наслідків повені, рятуючи літургійні речі та захищаючи церковне майно.

Архієпископ Даниїл висловив свою архіпастирську турботу, підтримку й заохочення, запевнивши парафію, що вона не самотня у цьому випробуванні. Він також передав архіпастирське благословення, любов і молитви Його Високопреосвященства Митрополита Антонія, Предстоятеля Української Православної Церкви США, який духовно єднається з вірними Сан-Дієго у цей складний час.

Архієпископ Даниїл зазначив: «Коли страждає парафія, страждає все Тіло Христове. Повторні повені, які переживає парафія Покрова Пресвятої Богородиці, є важким хрестом, однак віра, єдність і витривалість цієї громади є живим свідченням надії. Церква стоїть поруч із ними в молитві, співчутті та конкретній допомозі».

Консисторія смиренно просить усе духовенство, парафії та вірних Української Православної Церкви США згадати парафію Покрова Пресвятої Богородиці у своїх молитвах, благаючи Господа про дарування сили, витривалості, безпеки та швидкого відновлення святого храму.

Окрім молитовної підтримки, Консисторія звертається з проханням до парафій та окремих осіб розглянути можливість фінансової допомоги для відновлення парафії після цього повторного стихійного лиха. Зібрані кошти будуть спрямовані на нагальні ремонтні роботи, відновлення парафіяльних будівель і підтримку громади на шляху до стабільності.
