As the Church journeys from the feast of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker toward the joyful celebration of the Nativity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States of America continues to bear living witness to the Gospel through acts of mercy, compassion, and steadfast love - especially toward the most vulnerable children and families of Ukraine.

In a time marked by war, displacement, and profound human suffering, the Church has not turned inward, but outward - bringing gifts of love, nourishment, warmth, and hope to orphans, displaced families, and children whose lives have been deeply scarred by violence and loss. These offerings are more than material aid; they are signs of Christ’s presence among His suffering people.

Archbishop Daniel, speaking about this sacred ministry, emphasized that the Church’s humanitarian work flows directly from the mystery of the Incarnation: “From Saint Nicholas to the Nativity, we are reminded that God comes to us not with power or force, but with gentleness, generosity, and love. Every gift offered to a child in need becomes a testimony that Christ has not abandoned His people. He is present - through the Church, through love, and through sacrifice.”

Through close cooperation between the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, humanitarian aid continues to be delivered directly to those in need. With the blessing and pastoral oversight of Metropolitan Antony, Prime Hierarch of the UOC of the USA, this ministry remains rooted in prayer, accountability, and deep pastoral concern.

In a recent conversation, Archbishop Daniel personally expressed gratitude to Metropolitan Serhii of Donetsk of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine for his unwavering spiritual leadership and fatherly guidance. Reflecting on this cooperation, Metropolitan Serhii affirmed: “The Church must be where the pain is. In times of war, our mission is not theoretical - it is incarnational. When we care for children, the displaced, and the brokenhearted, we proclaim the Nativity not only with words, but with our lives.”

The aid - made possible through the faithful generosity of parishes, clergy, and individual donors - includes toys, nutritional supplies, essential goods, and locally sourced assistance, ensuring that help reaches people quickly and with dignity. In many cases, supplies are purchased directly in Ukraine, supporting local communities while responding to urgent needs.

Across the ocean, the faithful of the UOC of the USA have responded with the same unconditional love. Though separated by distance, we are united in Christ. Through charitable gifts, financial donations, and the careful shipment or local purchase of logistical, nutritional, and humanitarian supplies within Ukraine, the ministry continues - quietly, faithfully, and with humility. Volunteers in Ukraine give of themselves without reserve; the faithful in the United States give of themselves without hesitation. This is the Church at her best - one Body, one heart, one mission.

From Saint Nicholas to the Nativity, we learn that true preparation for Christ’s coming is not found only in words or rituals, but in acts of kindness, self-sacrifice, and self-offering. The Child whom we await does not ask for grand gestures; He asks for loving hearts. He comes to us vulnerable, trusting, and poor - so that we might learn to love without conditions.

Children receiving these gifts often smile - yet behind those smiles lie stories of lost homes, interrupted childhoods, fallen parents, and uncertain futures. The Church does not ignore this pain. Instead, it stands beside these children as a spiritual mother, offering comfort without conditions and love without limits.

“The Nativity teaches us that God enters human fragility,” Archbishop Daniel noted. “When we embrace those who suffer, we make room for Christ Himself. Every act of charity becomes a small Bethlehem - a place where hope is born.”

As the faithful prepare to greet the newborn Christ, the Church calls all people of goodwill to continue supporting this sacred mission - through prayer, charitable giving, and compassionate action. In doing so, the light of Saint Nicholas continues to shine, guiding hearts toward the humble manger where Love Himself is born for the life of the world.

May this season of the Nativity renew faith, strengthen compassion, and remind all that even in the darkest nights, the Light shines - and the darkness cannot overcome it.

В період коли Церква прямує від свята святого Миколая Чудотворця до радісного торжества Різдва Господа і Спасителя нашого Ісуса Христа, Українська Православна Церква в Сполучених Штатах Америки продовжує бути живим свідком Євангелія через діла милосердя, співчуття та непохитної любові - особливо до найуразливіших дітей і родин України.

У час, позначений війною, вимушеним переселенням і глибокими людськими стражданнями, Церква не замикається в собі, а виходить назустріч світові - приносячи сиротам, переміщеним сім’ям і дітям, чиє життя було тяжко зранене насильством і втратою, дари любові, поживу, тепло й надію. Ці дари є не лише матеріальною допомогою; вони є знаками присутності Христа серед Його стражденного народу.

Архієпископ Даниїл наголосив, що гуманітарна діяльність Церкви безпосередньо випливає з таїнства Воплочення: «Від святого Миколая до Різдва ми знову і знову усвідомлюємо, що Бог приходить до нас не з силою чи примусом, а з лагідністю, щедрістю і любов’ю. Кожен дар, принесений дитині в потребі, стає свідченням того, що Христос не покинув Свій народ. Він присутній - через Церкву, через любов і через жертву».

Завдяки тісній співпраці між Українською Православною Церквою США та Православною Церквою України, гуманітарна допомога й надалі безпосередньо доставляється тим, хто її найбільше потребує. За благословенням і пастирською опікою Митрополита Антонія, Предстоятеля УПЦ США, це служіння залишається вкоріненим у молитві, відповідальності та глибокій пастирській турботі.

Під час недавньої розмови Архієпископ Даниїл особисто висловив вдячність Митрополиту Сергію, духовному отцеві Донецької Єпархії Православної Церкви України за його непохитне духовне служіння та батьківську опіку. Роздумуючи над цією співпрацею, Митрополит Сергій підкреслив: «Церква повинна бути там, де є біль. У час війни наша місія не є теоретичною - вона є воплоченою. Коли ми піклуємося про дітей, переселенців і зранених серцем, ми проповідуємо Різдво не лише словами, але самим нашим життям».

Допомога - здійснена завдяки жертовній щедрості парафій, духовенства та окремих жертводавців - включає іграшки, поживні продукти, предмети першої необхідності та місцево закуплену підтримку, що дозволяє швидко й гідно допомагати людям. У багатьох випадках необхідні речі купуються безпосередньо в Україні, підтримуючи місцеві громади та водночас відповідаючи на нагальні потреби.

По той бік океану вірні УПЦ США відповіли тією ж безумовною любов’ю. Хоча нас розділяє відстань, у Христі ми єдині. Через благодійні пожертви, фінансову підтримку, а також ретельну доставку чи місцеве придбання логістичних, поживних і гуманітарних ресурсів в Україні, це служіння триває - тихо, вірно й зі смиренням. Волонтери в Україні віддають себе без застережень; вірні в Сполучених Штатах - без вагань. Ось Церква у своїй найкращій подобі - одне Тіло, одне серце, одна місія.

Від святого Миколая до Різдва ми навчаємося, що справжня підготовка до приходу Христа полягає не лише в словах чи обрядах, а в ділах доброти, самопожертви та самовіддання. Дитя, Якого ми очікуємо, не вимагає великих жестів - Він шукає люблячих сердець. Він приходить до нас вразливим, довірливим і убогим - щоб навчити нас любити без умов.

Діти, які отримують ці дари, часто усміхаються - але за цими усмішками приховані історії втрачених домівок, перерваного дитинства, загиблих батьків і непевного майбутнього. Церква не відвертається від цього болю. Вона стає поруч із цими дітьми як духовна Мати, даруючи розраду без умов і любов без меж.

«Різдво навчає нас, що Бог входить у людську крихкість, - зауважив Архієпископ Даниїл. - Коли ми обіймаємо тих, хто страждає, ми відкриваємо місце для Самого Христа. Кожен акт милосердя стає маленьким Вифлеємом -місцем, де народжується надія».

Готуючись зустріти новонародженого Христа, Церква закликає всіх людей доброї волі й надалі підтримувати цю святу місію - молитвою, благодійністю та дієвою любов’ю. Так світло святого Миколая продовжує сяяти, провадячи серця до смиренної ясел, де сама Любов народжується для життя світу.

Нехай цей різдвяний час оновить віру, зміцнить співчуття і нагадає всім нам, що навіть у найтемніші ночі Світло світить - і темрява не здолає його.
